Who we are
The collective
Soigner à Mourir — formerly « Pour un Accompagnement Soignant Solidaire » — brings together frontline French healthcare professionals — intensive-care physicians, neurologists, oncologists, geriatricians, psychiatrists, nurses, healthcare managers and psychologists — around the op-ed « Active assistance in dying — a proposal for caring, united support », published in Le Monde on 7 September 2023.
The collective is led notably by Valérie Mesnage (neurologist) and François Blot (intensive-care physician).
The signatories act in their own name, independently of the institutions or learned societies that represent them.
What we stand for
Whatever the legal framework becomes, three requirements seem essential to us: effective access to palliative care for everyone, caregivers' freedom of conscience, and humane, continuous support for people at the end of life and for those close to them. Our position is set out in the op-ed; our documentary pages present laws and data as they are, including debates and criticism.
